DIYer ESSENTIAL. I use this literally every time I open an outlet or switch or do anything electrical. I always double check that the device is on and then double check that there is no power to the wire I plan to touch.

✅ Visual & Audio notification that the wire has power
✅ Dual Voltage Range
✅ Built-In Flashlight

3

Tape Measure

Craftsman
w3.JPEG

It is a reliable, sturdy and red tape measure. Red is good because I am a dude.

4

Dripless Caulk Gun

Newborn Octogun
w3.JPEG

After using a regular caulking gun for years, I was skeptical this product would be notably better but IT IS.
On standard guns, caulk continues to pour out after releasing trigger. Not with the Octogun.

✅ Drip Free: IT ACTUALLY WORKS - See comment above.
✅ Trigger - Smooth and consistent. Built in tools - There is a spout cutter and a seal puncture tool.
✅ Lightweight, sturdy and comfortable handle

w3.JPEG

5

Magnetic Pick Up

VasTools
w3.JPEG

I drop a lot of screws, bolts or everything in general. GREAT for picking those up. Especially when they fall into hard to reach places like an engine, inside a pocket door or the other 1000x places I have dropped something.

✅ Flexible shaft

6

Drill Bit Set

Dewalt
w3.JPEG

Dirk used on: wood, plastic and metal (And grout for installing anchors.

✅ Versatile - works on wood, plastic, metal
✅ Durable bits - High Speed Steel (HSS)
✅ Index Markings on Case

❌ No Cobalt/Titanium Coated Bits - these bits will wear faster on hardened metals

w3.JPEG

7

Drywall Anchor Set

HongWay
w3.JPEG

Life is also too short to dig through a pile of random sized drywall anchors and try to find screws to match. A large organized variety set in a solid case will last you a long time (Forever?).

Dirk used for: paintings, toliet paper holder, towel racks,

✅ Really Nice Case
✅ Color Organization
✅ Good variety.
✅ Built-In Flashlight

❌ Screws could be better but for the price…not bad (Slowly screw in)

w3.JPEG

8

Stud Finder

Craftsman
w3.JPEG

This has a lower rating (4.2) than I typically would consider but I have not had any issues.

Works on wallpaper & fabric to a thickness of 3/4"

✅ BETTER than trying the knocking approach
✅ Stud Edge Detection
✅ Durable - even after dropping numerous times

❌ Uses a 9V battery (Why ?????)

w3.JPEG

9

Sawzall Blade Set

Milwaukee
w3.JPEG

Thick blades & last longer than other brands I have used. Covers all the bases - Wood, Metal & Wood+Metal.

MEMORIZE the tooth size/look for different blades because the type marking (Wood, Metal etc.) wears off.

Dirk used for: Cutting a metal post, a deck into pieces for disposal, bolts, trim, & small branches.

✅ Case Included!
✅ Thick Blades
✅ Variety of Blades - covers all the bases
✅ Long Lasting Blades - better than other brands I have used

Metal Blade Scraper

Goldblatt
w3.JPEG

Best metal scrapers I have used. Having two different sizes covers all basic scraping situations.

✅ Durable Plastic
✅ Easy Blade Replacement
✅ Comes with 100 Replacement Blades

w3.JPEG

12

Paint Brush Set

Pro Grade
w3.JPEG

Suprisingly good for the price. Set of five for same price as a single name brand brush.

DO NOT hold your brushes upside down under the faucet - damages the brush. (Goes for all brushes, not just these)

✅ 5 Brushes - close to same price as a single brand name
✅ Five different size/types - covers most applications
✅ Decent Durability

w3.JPEG

13

Ratchet Screw- driver

Klein
w3.JPEG

There are cheaper options but I love Klein tools. I use this ALL the time.

PW Surface Tool

Karcher
w3.JPEG

Do you have streaks after pressure washing your driveway? The surface attachment makes driveways, sidewalks & other surfaces much easier.

Dirk used with: A Ryobi 2800 psi pressure washer for a couple seasons and I am very happy with it.

✅ Reduces Streaks on Driveway/Surfaces
✅ Quick Release Mechanism
✅ Durable

❌ Limited PSI range - must make sure it falls within the recommended PSI 2600-3200

w3.JPEG

15

3 in 1 Caulk Tool

Allway
w3.JPEG

Three tools in one BUT I really only use the caulk remover. I have a dedicated plastic scraper and a set of caulk smoothers. (Also in list)

Works with acrylic, latex, and silicone caulk and is handy for window, bath, and shower projects

Dirk used on: glass, granite and a variety of other surfaces when delicate removal is necessary.

✅ Build Quality
✅ Caulk removal was super easy

w3.JPEG

16

Caulk Finish Set

Hotop
w3.JPEG

I still use my finger for most applications but have used these occasionally. These were essential for the silicone toilet seal when I used my finger - it looked like a child was fingerpainting with silicone.

✅ Durable
✅ LOTS of Edge Profiles - covers every conceivable caulking situation
✅ Easy to Use (Hard to master)

w3.JPEG

17

Sawzall

Ridgid
w3.JPEG

Everyone needs a Sawzall. A cordless one is a must - at this point I regret being cheap and buying a corded anything.

Make sure to get a blade set with metal, wood and metal + wood blades.

Dirk used on: cutting up a deck, small branches, PVC pipes

✅ Ergonomic Design - comfy grip
✅ Tool Free Blade Installation
✅ Durable (So far)
✅ Simple operation

❌ Ridgid - their customer service / warranty is terrible

w3.JPEG

18

Insulated Screw- driver

Klein
w3.JPEG

It's a screwdriver BUT insulated. Hence the higher cost. The length is also great to get into small areas that shorter screwdrivers cant.

✅ Klein = Quality Products
✅ Insulated - coating protects against electrical shocks
✅ Durability - flame & impact resistant
✅ Design - insulation sits flush with tip (Reduced chipping/cracking as seen in other brands)

w3.JPEG

19

Multi- meter

Klein
w3.JPEG

There are cheaper & more cost effective options but I like Klein and it was the one my father has. It also had the temperature sensing capability which cheaper options do not.

Covers any DIYer situation.

✅ Klein = Quality Products
✅ Comprehensive - AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, frequency, temperature
✅ Durable - rugged, drop-resistant housing. Meets specific safety standards also.
✅ Display - bright backlight

w3.JPEG

20

Air Hose

Ridgid
w3.JPEG

All DIYers need a compressor hose. I only recommend this one if you can get it on sale like I did. Amazon price is high.

50 feet is overkill for average DIYer.

Dirk used for: nail guns, wall texture gun, stapler, tire inflation, blowing air through car vents, car crevices, car engine

✅ Lightweight - easy to carry
✅ Durable
✅ Stays clean
✅ Compatible with HVLP

❌ Twisted - gets all twisted up (Not as bad as the old Apple Ear Buds)
❌ Warranty - no issues with the hose but Ridgid Warranty process is unusable

w3.JPEG

21

Painter's Tool

Warner
w3.JPEG

First thing I did was repaint when I moved in but the textured walls needed a LOT of prep work. This was used daily.

Dirk used to: scrape huge blobs of paint, remove painted over blue tape, nails, caulk etc.

✅ STIFF - great for tough scraping
✅ Stainless Steel - I have some non-Stainless Steel ones and they, well, rust…
✅ Multi-purpose - spreader, scraper, roller cleaner, gouger and putty knife (I never used it to clean rollers)
✅ Quality Build

w3.JPEG

22

Plier Set

Amazon Basics
w3.JPEG

Received these as a gift and was pleasantly surprised with the sturdiness. I replaced my rag tag of other similar pliers and they have performed well.

Used for: loosening nuts, gripping pipes, tightening fasteners and everything in between.

✅ Set of 3 - different sizes
✅ Quick Release Mechanism
✅ Durable

w3.JPEG

23

Air Compressor

Dewalt
w3.JPEG

All DIYers need an Air Compressor. 6-Gallon is a good size for a wide range of DIY activities. I considered smaller/cheaper but it was not a good long term solution.

If I had not been burned by Ridgid, I would consider a cheaper brand.

Used for: painting, finish nailers, staplers, tire inflation, light painting, blowing dust.

✅ Balance of Size & Capacity
✅ Long Run Time
✅ Dual Universal Couplers
✅ Oil Free Pump
✅ Not a Ridgid

❌ Price

w3.JPEG

24

Texture Spray Gun

Hiltex
w3.JPEG

SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN BUYING $30 CANS OF TEXTURE. You just need to buy the dry compound mix, mix it in a bucket, PRACTICE FIRST, then go to town.

Also, dont try skim coating walls - youtube videos are BS. Just keep the textured walls.

Used with: 6 gallon pancake Ridgid Air Compressor for full walls and touch up.

✅ Easy to Use (HARD to Master)
✅ Quick Release Mechanism
✅ HUGE Hopper

w3.JPEG

25

Small Hand Saw

Dewalt
w3.JPEG

4 Stars on this one BUT you need a some sort of small saw
Used to cut small PVC or wood. (3" PVC took forever)

✅ Cuts wood, plastic easily
✅ Comfy Grip

❌ Blade Lock - hand tightening was not enough

w3.JPEG

26

Paint Brush Cleaning

Warner
w3.JPEG

The cleaning tool is helpful opening up the interior of the back part of the bristles so water can get in.

This model is no longer available so you will have to look for another.
